Why Do Carpets Ripple?

Posted in Tips & Trends

Have you noticed that wrinkles or puckering on your carpet? This is called Rippling.  Carpets can ripple for a number of reasons:

  • A defect in the manufacturer’s latex
  • An installation error from improper cushion
  • A temporary condition from cleaning
  • An error in installation
  • Liquid left for a prolong amount of time
  • Periods of very high heat and humidity

If you find that a carpet is rippling or buckling, contact a professional carpet installer, who should use a power stretcher (rather than a “knee kicker”) to re-stretch the carpet.
