Trends in Home Fabrics Forecasted at Heimtextil 2011

At the Heimstextil trade show last week in Frankfurt, Germany, a group of designers and trend forecasters released what they believe will be some of the hottest trends in home fabrics, including area rugs and carpet. While Home Textiles Today offered live video coverage with some key findings and interviews with exhibitors and industry experts, Apartment Therapy has a great round-up of the trends in words and pictures, including:

  • Natural fibers and textures in neutral colors
  • Eclectic, ethnic-inspired designs with bright colors
  • Utility through technology such as sound-proofing materials
  • Traditional craftsmanship and time-tested patterns such as plaid, herringbone, etc.

These trends are, of course, influenced by a number of factors including the
