Designers Demonstrate Versatility of Tribal Rugs

Posted in Tips & Trends

One of the home fabrics trends coming out of the 2011 Heimtextil trade show is ethnic-inspired patterns, prints, and colors for a well-traveled, global look. This trend can be interpreted in several ways and overlap with other related trends such as the rise in the use of natural fibers. What may be surprising about the trend is the versatility of ethnic-inspired home fabrics such as tribal area rugs.

On one hand, tribal prints can make a bold design statement as illustrated by a royal blue-and-white zebra-patterned custom stair installation and area rug that Seldom Scene Interiors designed at Colony Rug for a client in Palm Beach, Fla.

On the other, they can be subtle and understated, blending with seemingly unrelated styles as demonstrated by Green Couch design’s use of Merida’s Serengeti area rug in this luxurious San Francisco dining room.

Tell us how you would design a room with ethnic-inspired tribal rugs by leaving a comment.
