Part 1 – Custom Hand Knotted Area Rugs

Posted in Blog, Tips & Trends

Designing and carrying out the process of having custom rugs made can take months, but in the end you have a one-of-a-kind rug of the perfect size and colors for your room. Local designer, Sandra Tuthill, is working on a few custom rugs for a client’s dining room & living room for their new summer home which is being built on Cape Cod. Sandy started this process with us by selecting an existing custom carpet sample and then we shipped both the sample and some of her fabric swatches that will be in the space directly to our importer, Noreen Seabrook.  Once received, the importer starts what’s called the color rendering process.  Here he interprets the pattern, fabrics & colors into the proper scale for the large sized area rugs.  After tweaking several computer renderings, Sandy finally approved a version which has now been submitted to Nepal. We will receive an actual hand knotted sample this coming October which will be presented to the client for approval before the proceeding with the 14’x17’6″ & 14’x14′ area rugs. If all goes well, we anticipate receiving the finished rugs by late March/early April 2013!
